An international consortium purchased 90% of AySA for US$340 million

The government announced Thursday the sale of 90% of the shares in Agua y Saneamientos Argentinos (AySA) to a consortium of Argentine, Brazilian, and Dutch companies, which offered US$340 million. The company, which provides water service to the 14 million residents of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, thus returns to private hands after two decades of state management.
The concession contract lasts 30 years, extendable for an additional ten, with the agreement expected to be signed before the end of the year and the full transfer of operations scheduled for January or February 2027. The amount fell short of the US$500 million projected by the Ministry of Economy, which described the company as a “model of administrative dysfunction.” The winning consortium—led by Rowing SA, along with Transclor, Brazil’s Arcos Saneamento, and the Dutch firm PHX Aqua—must invest US$1.9 billion over five years and US$15 billion in total.
