Javier Milei’s administration appealed to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea to halt the oil exploration and extraction that London authorized off the Malvinas Islands, where the Sea Lion field is slated for development. Buenos Aires alleges that these operations encroach on the continental shelf it considers its own, while the United Kingdom maintains that the licenses are legal.

Meanwhile, British Ambassador David Concar arrived in Punta Arenas, and there were no reports that his agenda included meetings regarding the proposed maritime link between that city and Port Stanley. The shipping company Easter Island plans to launch the service in mid-November with the vessel Danstar, as an alternative to the current stopover in Montevideo, with an estimated annual turnover of US$20 million. An Argentine congressman, Guillermo Michel, proposed removing tax benefits for Chilean companies operating on that route, and there were intelligence warnings about a possible interception during the maiden voyage.
