Ruling Party Abandons Land Reforms to Save Milei's Decree

Argentina’s ruling party decided not to press ahead with easing restrictions on the purchase of rural land by foreigners. According to ABC, the measure aims to prevent the opposition from overturning the deregulation decree signed by Javier Milei in 2023, which eliminated those regulations along with dozens of rules related to commerce and rentals.

The Chamber of Deputies will consider the complete repeal of that decree this Thursday. Faced with the risk of losing the entire package, the government agreed to reinstate the limits set by the 2011 land law in order to preserve the rest of the provisions.
