La Libertad Avanza Accepts the 15% Limit on Land Purchases by Foreigners

The ruling coalition, La Libertad Avanza, and its allies in the Chamber of Deputies backed down from their plan to eliminate limits on land purchases by foreigners. At a committee meeting on Wednesday, they agreed to reinstate the 15% cap established by the 2011 land law in the private property bill, according to the Buenos Aires Herald. The move aims to undermine the quorum for the special session the opposition has called for Thursday, during which it intends to reject DNU 70/23, the decree by which the government repealed that provision.
The private property bill, which was already approved by the Senate in August, is scheduled for debate on October 21. The legal dispute continues to unfold: on September 30, the Supreme Court had authorized the repeal of the article setting the limit, but nine days later it reinstated the suspension.
