The government extended the Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 concession through 2049

On Monday, the Official Gazette published an administrative decision by the Office of the Chief of Staff extending the contract for Aeropuertos Argentina 2000: the expiration date is extended from 2038 to February 2049, with the possibility of extending it further to 2056 if the agreed-upon conditions are met. In exchange, the company must execute, by 2031, the equivalent of 75% of the investments committed to in the previous contract, using its own funds and outside the trust fund that is financed by the fee it pays to the government. The text does not specify which projects will be carried out and is based on the Framework Law and the effects of the pandemic on the aviation industry.
In another decree issued the same day, Javier Milei recused himself from the process due to his prior professional relationship with Corporación América—the group led by Eduardo Eurnekian that controls the concessionaire—and handed the matter over to the Chief of Staff. According to ABC, the company manages 35 airports and employs approximately 2,800 people.
