Elon Musk congratulated Milei on the slowdown in inflation in Argentina

Businessman Elon Musk praised Argentine President Javier Milei in a post on his X account, after sharing a post from the libertarian account Rothmus that showed a graph illustrating the sharp decline in inflation in Argentina. Rothmus had linked the slowdown in prices to the government’s achievement of a fiscal surplus and questioned experts who described the adjustment as “austerity theater.”

Milei responded hours later by quoting Musk’s message with a casual comment. The post noted that the two have a longstanding relationship: Musk promised in 2024 to invest in lithium and batteries in Argentina, Milei backed him following the controversy over a gesture at Trump’s inauguration, and in February 2025, the Argentine president gave him a chainsaw as a gift during the CPAC conference in the United States, as a symbol of his policy of fiscal austerity.
