Macron will urge Milei to respect international law regarding the Malvinas Islands during his visit to Paris

Sources at the Élysée Palace reported that French President Emmanuel Macron will raise with Javier Milei, during his upcoming visit to Paris, the need for Argentina to respect international norms and procedures in the dispute over the Malvinas Islands. According to these sources, France and the United Kingdom share common concerns regarding respect for their sovereignty in overseas territories, and Macron will seek to convey the importance of loyalty among international partners, in reference to Milei’s criticism of London and also of Spain.
The meeting between the two leaders will take place as part of “Argentina Week,” an event organized by the OECD to promote investment; therefore, the agenda will focus primarily on economic and trade issues, including critical minerals such as lithium and copper, and the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. Despite differences on issues such as multilateralism or the role of the UN, officials at the Élysée Palace emphasized that these disagreements will not hinder dialogue between the two countries.
