El Mundo analyzes how Trump reignited Milei's claim to the Malvinas Islands and put pressure on the United Kingdom

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo published an analysis of how Argentina’s claim to the Malvinas Islands—which, according to the paper, had been a marginal issue for Javier Milei until the middle of this year—resurfaced with force following statements by Donald Trump that cast doubt on the United States’ historical neutrality in the conflict. The U.S. president suggested he would review his stance on the dispute, which caused concern within Andy Burnham’s British government. Trump stated, “I always review every position. It’s just one of many.”
The publication reported that Milei seized on this hint to announce on national television measures against oil exploration at Sea Lion, a field near the islands, threatening commercial and criminal sanctions against companies linked to Vaca Muerta that operate there. The analysis also reviewed Argentina’s military buildup in Tierra del Fuego, with U.S. support, and noted that regional backing for the Malvinas cause has weakened due to the rift with Brazil and Chile’s cautious stance on the dispute.
