At the IDEA Colloquium in Mar del Plata, President Javier Milei participated via Zoom from Paris—where he was attending Argentina Week—in an interview with José del Río of La Nación. He acknowledged that the economy is facing difficulties—economic activity fell 2.9% in July, unemployment reached 7.9% in the second quarter, and the country risk rating exceeded 600 points—but he defended the course of his program. “The first thing we need is patience. Growth processes are not linear,” he said, in a more measured tone than in previous appearances.

The president framed the 2027 elections as a choice between deepening reforms or backtracking, and admitted that it is reasonable for investors to wait until after the elections. He also mentioned plans to lower taxes, completely lift currency controls, and continue with privatizations, although he acknowledged that Congress had approved only 11 of the 40 companies he sought to privatize. Outside the room, according to the media outlet, some attendees questioned the lack of clear signs of economic recovery.
