The IMF acknowledged Argentina's progress but called for growth to reach more sectors

IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack stated that Argentina made “significant progress” in stabilizing its macroeconomy after years of high inflation and heavy debt, highlighting the slowdown in price growth, the fiscal surplus, and the Central Bank’s purchase of reserves during 2026. As she explained, this stabilization is the necessary foundation for sustainable growth.
At the same time, she noted that the IMF and Argentine authorities agree that growth—which has so far been concentrated in the energy, mining, and agriculture sectors—must be extended to other sectors and workers. Kozack also confirmed that technical discussions are continuing, following the mission that visited Buenos Aires from September 21 to 29, with the aim of reaching a technical-level agreement for the third review of the program with the IMF, on which a new disbursement of nearly $900 million depends.
