Argentina Approves Investments Totaling More Than US$27 Billion in Energy, Mining, and the Automotive Sector Under the RIGI

The Argentine government approved a series of international investment projects in oil, gas, mining, and automotive manufacturing totaling more than US$27 billion, under the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI). The Evaluation Committee gave the green light to an unconventional development project in Vaca Muerta by Pluspetrol and GyP worth US$12.4 billion, aimed primarily at exporting oil and gas.
The Agua Rica mining project in Catamarca, led by the multinational Glencore, was also approved, with an estimated investment of US$4 billion to produce copper for international markets. In addition, Toyota will build a plant in Zárate to manufacture the first 100% electric car produced in the country, with an investment of US$1.3 billion—a project that Economy Minister Luis Caputo described as “the largest investment in the history of the Argentine automotive industry.” The announcements were made during Argentina Week in Paris, where the French company TotalEnergies also presented expansion projects totaling nearly US$10 billion.
