Former Chilean ambassador says a Bolsonaro victory in Brazil would hurt Milei
In an interview with La Tercera, Sebastián Depolo, Chile’s former ambassador to Brazil, analyzed the scenario that would unfold if Flávio Bolsonaro defeats Lula da Silva in the presidential runoff on October 25. According to Depolo, such an outcome would align Brazil with the so-called “Shield of the Americas” initiative promoted by the United States, which would have geopolitical consequences for the entire region.
Depolo argued that, as part of this realignment, Argentina would lose relative influence with Washington if Bolsonaro takes office. He explained that Donald Trump would prioritize Brazil due to its size and natural resources, to the detriment of his ties with Javier Milei. “This is bad news for Javier Milei,” said the former ambassador, who also noted that Chilean President José Antonio Kast maintains close ties with Flávio Bolsonaro, although that relationship would be conditioned by both men’s ties to Trump.
