A judge ruled that the government's suspension of the university law was unconstitutional

A federal judge ruled that Javier Milei’s administration is acting unconstitutionally by failing to enforce the university funding law passed in 2025, and ordered it to implement the law immediately. This refers to Judge Martín Cormick’s ruling against the executive order by which the administration had suspended that law—which had been approved by Congress after a presidential veto was overturned in Parliament. According to the judge, the official justification is unreasonable and amounts to “a form of veto not provided for in the National Constitution.”

The decision responds to petitions filed by the National Interuniversity Council, public universities, and the University of Buenos Aires (UBA); the government will appeal, according to local media. Since December 2023, funding transfers to national universities have fallen by nearly 40%, and faculty salaries have lost a third of their purchasing power, according to a UBA research institute. There are strikes, and a march is planned for October 15.
