Orsi defended the UN two days after Milei's speech in New York

MercoPress reported that Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi addressed the UN General Assembly on Thursday and presented a viewpoint opposite to the one Javier Milei had expressed on Tuesday from the same podium. While the Argentine described the organization as a fossilized structure and questioned the usefulness of resolutions that no one complies with, Orsi defended its relevance: “The UN has more and more reasons to exist every day,” he said, calling for more representative multilateral organizations and reform of the Security Council.
The Uruguayan, who currently holds the rotating presidencies of Mercosur and CELAC, also condemned the economic blockade against Cuba, avoided taking sides in ongoing conflicts, and made no mention of Gaza. According to the report, leaders of the National Party considered the speech vague, while the ruling coalition responded positively.
