Milei and Rubio spoke by phone about trade, investment, and security

Argentine President Javier Milei and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke by phone on Friday, October 16, for about 30 minutes about bilateral trade, investment, and security, according to the State Department and the Argentine presidency. The Casa Rosada noted that both agreed that the relationship is based on freedom, democratic institutions, free trade, and private enterprise.
The conversation took place following Milei’s visit to Washington, where he met with Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and after the announcement of a protocol with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer that paves the way for the February trade agreement to be sent to Congress. On the economic front, a line of credit of up to $7 billion from the Exim Bank would support the Andes-Atlantic Corridor, and the bank offered up to $6 billion for the Argentina LNG gas project, which still requires approval from its board of directors.
