Milei said that Trump's arrival at the Shield of the Americas was a last-minute change

In an interview with the Argentine newspaper La Nación, Javier Milei described how the Shield of the Americas meeting, held on September 22 in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, was organized. According to his account, the U.S. president was not among the attendees when the event was initially planned and ended up joining after adjusting his schedule: “Trump was not scheduled to attend the Shield of the Americas meeting,” he said. He added that the event was led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and that he was one of the four designated speakers.
The Costa Rican newspaper La Nación noted that this account does not align with the version given by President Laura Fernández, who dismissed her foreign minister, Manuel Tovar, for attending what she described as an event reserved for heads of state.
