Milei gave the United Kingdom a two-week deadline regarding the Sea Lion oil project

The specialized website energy-pedia reported that the Argentine president issued a 14-day ultimatum to the British government to halt exploration activities in waters near the Malvinas Islands. If that deadline passes without any changes, Milei announced on social media that he had instructed the Foreign Ministry and his legal teams to initiate international arbitration, and that the case would be brought before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
The field in question, Sea Lion, is being developed by the British company Rockhopper Exploration in partnership with the Israeli firm Navitas Petroleum, which claim to hold permits granted by London; extraction is scheduled to begin in two years. The publication noted that the claim comes after Milei’s speech to the General Assembly, in which he described the United Nations as “a useless organization,” and that British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting said Argentina lacks the military capacity to reclaim the islands.
