During the general debate at the UN General Assembly, several world leaders called for greater restrictions on social media for minors and stricter regulations for artificial intelligence, citing risks to children’s mental health and economic inequality. In this context, Argentine President Javier Milei took the position most favorable to light regulation among the leaders present.

Milei argued that the fears generated by previous technological revolutions had not ultimately led to job losses as predicted, and he stated that Argentina would avoid premature regulation of AI, offering instead incentives to companies that develop the technology. “Fear must not turn into obedience,” the president told the Assembly. His position contrasted with that of countries such as France, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, which called for stronger regulatory frameworks in response to the advance of artificial intelligence and digital platforms.
