During “Argentina Week,” which is taking place at OECD headquarters in Paris, the director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, highlighted Argentina’s potential in oil, gas, copper, and critical minerals, and emphasized that the value lies not only in extracting them but also in refining and processing them. According to ABC, Birol said that this appeal depends on political, macroeconomic, and regulatory stability: “Investors are like butterflies: when they get scared, they fly away,” he said.

Birol placed Argentina’s situation within a global context of rising electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence, data centers, and electric vehicles. Participants in the meeting include Javier Milei, ministers from his cabinet, governors, the head of the Central Bank, and European energy, mining, and infrastructure companies such as TotalEnergies, Eni, Rio Tinto, Glencore, and Santander.
