An article by Greater Belize Media analyzed how the close presidential election in Brazil between Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro could reshape the political landscape of Latin America. The article noted that Argentine President Javier Milei, described as one of Washington’s closest regional allies, publicly endorsed Bolsonaro, as did U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to the article, Milei is the leader who has worked hardest to position himself as the regional face of the Trump-aligned right, although political scientist Juan Pablo Scarfi doubted that Bolsonaro, even if he wins, would be able to match that level of alignment with Washington. Scholar Alfredo Toro Hardy argued that a Bolsonaro victory would expand what he called the “MAGA club” in the region.
